Air Raid Jive are based in Witham Essex and have been dancing Swing Jive since 2003 and on the 1940’s scene for many years prior to this. The style of Jive we teach was brought to Britain in the early 40’s with the arrival of the American GI’s. We have added some early 50’s variations to these moves. Our aim is to teach in a Fun, Friendly Environment, catering for all ages from late teens to 70+ years.
Our evening in class includes teaching Jive, Strolls (which although are more 50’s orientated, are used at the dances we attend) and we end the evening with a Social Dance of the era. We also run Balboa Swing Workshops throughout the year for Beginners and also Progression Workshops for those who wish to carry on further with this popular dance. ‘Bal Swing’ is a 1930’s dance which was popular in the packed Dance Halls when room on the floor was limited.
We attend many events throughout the year up and down the Country, teaching and dancing at WWII and Military Shows, Vintage Fairs, Weddings, Birthdays, Residential Homes etc. We have also been fortunate to have made TV appearances.
Our love of the 1940’s and the great “Family” of Dancers and Re-enactors on this scene, has inspired us to want to invite others to get involved and this is how “Air Raid Jive” began.
